Medical Director

The Medical Director is a geriatrician, geriatric psychiatrist, or neurologist with expertise in dementia care who

  • Supervises the clinical care provided by Dementia Care Specialists (DCSs)

    • Recruits/Trains/Mentors newly - recruited DCSs

    • Engages established DCSs in continuous professional development

    • Leads weekly case-based discussion with focus on potentially-preventable hospitalizations/ED visits, patients- or caregivers-in-crisis, successes/challenges

    • Brings new resources/programs/initiatives to the attention of the DCAs/DCSs

    • Completes annual DCS performance evaluation

    • Meets with individual DCS on productivity, performance, professionalism issues as needed

    • Availability for clinical or administrative questions as they arise

  • Along with the Program Manager and DCS’ is responsible for day-to-day clinical operations and decisions

    • Introduce modifications/innovations to the ADC clinical protocol as appropriate

    • Manage communication issues between DCA-DCS, DCS-DCS, Patient/CG-DCS, including reassignments if necessary for smooth transitions

    • Ensure adequate clinical coverage whenever there is change in staffing due to recruitment/departure/vacations

  • Represents the program to primary care physicians and other physicians, including resolving conflicts

    • Troubleshoot communication issues that arise between referring physician and DCS
